Fortnum and Mason: From Piccadilly Circus to Hong Kong
t Studio 104, we know the importance of bringing British heritage alive throughout the world with bespoke uniform, which is why we were excited to collaborate with Fortnum and Mason on the launch of their new iconic Hong Kong store.
Titled ‘Outside, In’, the Studio 104 designers played on the idea of transporting Fortnum & Mason from London to Hong Kong, it’s first International store.
First founded in London in 1707 when Queen Anne gave her footman William Fortnum permission to sell on her discarded candles, the Fortnum and Mason flagship store in London’s Piccadilly has long been known for its luxurious British food, drink and gifts.
Now this renowned food and lifestyle brand has expanded into Hong Kong. It marks a momentous milestone for Fortnum & Mason with their first brand owned and operated outpost outside the UK in their 300-year-old history.
The new establishment situated in K11, Musea, features a retail store showcasing the luxury brand’s exclusive product line, including a mélange of exclusive tea, biscuits and champagne.
With a name inspired by the Muses in Greek mythology, K11 MUSEA aspires to enrich consumers daily life through the power of creativity, culture and innovation. Located in the heart of the Victoria Dockside art and cultural district, this world-class experiential landmark brings in immersive experiences in retail, art, culture, entertainment and gastronomy.
K11 Group was founded by entrepreneur Adrian Cheng in 2008 with a social mission to incubate talent and propagate culture. In creating K11 MUSEA -
K11 Group’s most ambitious project to date - Cheng’s vision is to reinvigorate Hong Kong’s waterfront with 100 creative powers and make K11 MUSEA the silicon valley of culture that will inspire global millennials, and facilitate a broader discussion on the interconnectedness of creativity, culture and innovation.
The new store enjoys dazzling views of Hong Kong Island’s iconic skyline with surroundings rather different the London W1 postcode.
Revisiting Fortnum & Mason’s rich history we have designed a bespoke uniform collection which celebrates the unforgettable experiences of this iconic department store.
A key consideration was the uniform running across multiple sites including London, aligning each location and maintaining a strong brand identity. Carefully balancing the history and the cultural space, we have stayed true to the brands story telling legacy.
The bespoke uniform range is quintessentially British as well as creative, easily recognisable to customers, which in turn empowers staff members. Creating a wonderful dialogue between customer and staff, making the everyday unique.
The London flagship department store is located close to St James’s park while K11 is being described as an Urban Park. This has influenced the uniforms bespoke colour palette, which is both on brand while referencing luscious vegetation, bringing the outside, in.
Studio 104 has enjoyed harmonizing craftsmanship and British heritage in its Doorman and tailoring. Elegant timeless style, focusing on strong silhouettes, finished with traditional construction methods has brought the Fortnum and Mason British heritage from Piccadilly circus to Hong Kong.
