Our Favourite Luxury Resort Hotels
ere at Studio 104, we’re all hoping for a less restricted year ahead, and like so many, we’re fervently readying ourselves to travel again. So, we thought it fitting to compile our pick of the world’s best luxury resort hotels that not only host you in some of the most desirable locations on the planet, but also pack a wealth of amenities.
This latest update, from the pioneers of barefoot luxury - Sonu and Eva Shivdasani have created a Robinson Crusoe-style getaway that is the bucket-list holiday of everyone’s dreams. The 25 luxurious overwater villas and beach reserve are connected by a winding wooden path… and each one has its own waterslide!
Spread across five islets in the northern Noonu Atoll, a surreal collection of 25 palatial neo-Victorian villas, plunging into water that’s so clear that you can see rays, mottled nudibranchs, and parrotfish from shore.
True to the Seneva principles, Jani is respectfully sustainable too, with its own recycling centre, seawater pools, organic gardens, and an open-air cinema equipped with wireless headphones so as not to disturb the nesting turtles nearby.

Six Senses Thimphu is a Bhutanese hideaway in the foothills of the Himalayas. Its dzong fortress-inspired design and energising views across the valley. Lays on the luxury with a local flair. The light-flooded rooms feature Bukhari wood-burning stoves and antique-washed rugs, alongside local artwork and the natural textures of timber and stone.
There’s a yoga pavilion (of course there is), an organic restaurant, a signature Six Senses spa, soul-stirring reflective pools, and ancient monasteries just a walk-in-the-woods away.

Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve — Puerto Rico
This worthy Conde Naste Traveller Gold List and Readers’ Choice Award winner is a sublime private retreat inspired by the legacy of its original developer, Laurance S. Rockefeller. The rooms are fringed by beach-facing terraces and outdoor showers, and premium artwork is scattered on tree branches.
The five-acre hacienda-style Spa Botanico, fronted by a 95-year-old ficus at the entrance wows with a vine-covered shade house, a pineapple garden and two tree-house treatment platforms. And if golf is your thing, then three Robert Trent Jones Sr.-designed courses will present a variety of challenges with stunning ocean views.

The Gleneagles Hotel in Auchterarder, Scotland, UK
When it first opened its doors in 1924, this magnificent countryside estate, sitting prominently at the foot of the Ochil Hills, in the heart of Scotland, was described as the “Riviera in the Highlands”. Today, its new multimillion makeover captures everything that makes Gleneagles so special but with an added sense of style.
This prolific 850-acre estate has over 232 rooms and suites, eight restaurants and bars, and an award-winning spa. The Gleneagles Hotel is a golfers paradise comprising three championship golf courses, and a profusion of out-of-doors pursuits, from falconry to archery, to ferret racing, fishing, and more.
The interior is stunning, beautifully complimented by a custom-made staff wardrobe befitting to the glamour and fun of the 1920’s. The uniform is a celebration of Scotland’s rich history & heritage. Achieved by showcasing the best of local craftsmanship, exploring both modern & traditional techniques in fabrics, construction, weaving and pattern work. There’s a wealth of plaids and herringbone, and a glorious bespoke tweed produced in partnership with Lovat Mill.
The five-star Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay is a masterclass in understated luxury. Perfectly positioned away from the hustle and bustle, on the shores of Talamanca Bay, boasting a cleverly designed, light-filled atrium that sweeps your gaze through to the Mediterranean beyond.
Among the White Island’s premier five-star resorts, this stylish, yet relaxed beach-front property offers 152 designer rooms and suites, plus four restaurants and bars. The hotel spa channels the island's luxurious bohemian vibe.
The immaculately dressed staff showcase custom uniform borne from the relaxed sophistication of the hotel design aesthetic of marble surfaces and stone embellishments, softened with rope features and bamboo accents. The result is a sleek and contemporary look synonymous with the Nobu identity.
Airelles Courchevel, Les Airelles, France
Airelles Courchevel, Les Airelles, the first hotel in Courchevel to gain palace status (the prestigious distinction awarded only to France’s most exceptional properties) is elegantly positioned in the pine forests and snow-capped peaks of the world’s largest ski area, Les Trois Vallées and lacks nothing in terms of style, service, and amenities.
The magical Austro-Hungarian exterior houses 48 rooms and suites, a Pierre Gagnaire’s restaurant with two Michelin stars, and a sumptuous La Mer Spa.
There’s also a four bedroom ‘Private Apartment’ where guests have at their disposal a butler, chauffeur-driven Bentley, private spa, bar, home-cinema, and a terrace with its own al fresco jacuzzi.

Six Senses Zighy Bay — Dibba, Oman
This far-flung hotel lies sandwiched between the dramatic Hajar Mountains and the warm seas off the northern Musandam Peninsula in the Sultanate of Oman. Each villa has a private pool, reed ceilings, rough stucco walls, and lamps suspended on ropes that reflect in the thick wood-framed mirrors. Outside, though, through the dense surrounding stands of palm, is a full-on luxe seaside hotel, with a pristine talcum-fine beach and a magnificent swimming pool set against a backdrop of towering pink peaks. Not surprising, given it’s a Six Senses, many people come here for the spa and its bespoke programs of treatments and fitness.
Nestled in Oman’s dramatic Musandam Peninsula, this sweeping hotel lies centre-stage between rugged mountains and vibrant emerald waters. Across a talcum-like sandy beach, the village-inspired resort offers a range of villas, suites, and beachfront retreats, each with a private pool, and traditional summer house. There’s something for everyone including eclectic dining featuring local and international cuisine, an award-winning spa, and a surplus of unique experiences.
