Première Vision Paris 2023
n July 2023, the Studio 104 design and product development teams visited Première Vision (PV) in Paris. PV is the go-to trade show for textile inspiration, industry connections and the ideal place to source exciting fabrics and stay at the forefront of new innovations.
We met some fantastic new mills, built upon relationships with our current mills and had some brilliant in-depth discussions with avariety of innovators. Innovators such as a USA based ‘37.5 Technology’ who have developed a technology that is embedded into the fibres of a fabric to thermoregulate the temperature of the skin!
In terms of this year's trends, there was an obvious overriding theme: Sustainability. With all the sub-themes linking back to being responsible to the planet. There were clear trends highlighting the importance of the sun through colour and other links to how we’re destroying the planet with these oil spill-looking fabrics.
Large displays of ‘protective whites’ seem to also be a reference to polar bears and the melting of ice and snow – again it's all about sustainability and being more eco-friendly.
Traceability of supply chains was also massively important at this year's PV with product life cycle maps displayed around the venue and mills showcasing their efforts in this area.
In terms of colour, there were two different directions. One was quite saturated with colours of the earth, fire, water and the sun and then the other focuses on the muted tones of natural dyes, sand, stone, wood, bark and clays.
The core colour of the season was a shade named ‘Solar Core’. A deeply saturated coral-orange shade that evokes the heat of the sun. It could be seen displayed all around the exhibition and directly relates back to the sustainability direction. The colour is strong, loud and unmissable, in a way it is the perfect colour to catch our attention and warn us of the dangers our planet faces.
